MISSION STATEMENT
Adopted by the Board of Directors - October 1996
To advocate participation in cocurricular activities; to regulate sanctioned interscholastic activities, contests and programs; and to promote the academic and social development of students.
ASAA's Strategic Plan is based on the following beliefs:
Interscholastic activities:
• Exist for the intrinsic values they provide for students of member schools;
• Are an integral part of the overall educational program;
• Provide an opportunity to learn and apply skills beyond the classroom;
• Promote character, citizenship, leadership and personal responsibility;
• Provide for fair and equitable opportunities for students of member schools;
• Provide unique opportunities for students to benefit from cross-cultural contact;
• Encourage and enhance the connections between communities and schools, adults and students, and among students; and
• Promote positive academic growth and develop sportsmanship.
ASAA Goals for 2007-08
1. Continue to implement and monitor the Association’s marketing plan.
2. Continue to implement the Strategic Plan for 2006-08.
3. Implement the procedure for rotation of certain state tournaments to rural Alaska on an occasional basis.
4. Continue to seek opportunities to showcase the cultural diversity of Alaska.
5. Seek ways to promote expansion of the Association’s citizenship/sportsmanship efforts with parents, students, officials and other groups.
6. Continue to develop the educational component of the Controlled Substance, Alcohol, and Tobacco Policy and test its application through pilot projects with selected member schools prior to the August 2008 implementation.
7. Implement the new NFHS Coaches Education Program.
